I cannot proof read my blog posts. When I re-read them I just read what I wrote and miss all the mistakes. Am I making sense?
My wife proof reads for me!

P.S. My wife doesn't proof read my comments - so there could be mistakes here!

You're right. Far too many bloggers write great content but undercut their efforts with spelling mistakes that could have taken a few minutes to discover and fix.

I totally agree....about blog posts and about books. I try my best to edit out the mistakes from each post and I use the techniques you suggested. It also helps me, if I have time, to print out the post (I write mine in a Word document and then cut and paste into my post) and read it on the printed page. I seem to catch more errors that way than reading it on the screen.

I think this is the most common mistake. It is also the most obvious mistake, and the mistake most likely to cause me to lose respect for the writer. When you write the word "its" or "it's", stop immediately and double-check to ensure you are using the correct form of this word. Remember, you should use "it's" when it is short for "it is". Look up the correct usage of these two words, and learn it. If you are still not confident, then you should always ask somebody else which one you should use.
