In a nutshell, what success did you have as a result of your blog/social media?
After attending an event with Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen where they encouraged us to use video, I immediately put into action what they had suggested not only at their event, but at the very next event I attended in my hometown.
This next event was a networking event sponsored by Successful Thinkers. Before and after the event I did a few video clips and put together a nice video edifying the event. I posted it on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Somehow the founder saw the video and contacted me. Over the next few months we became great friends and many opportunities opened up for me all because I payed it forward and sincerely edified someone else and blasted it all over the net.
What was the obstacle that you were facing in your business?
At the time I was just starting to recognize the value of social media and was implementing many of the strategies I had recently learned. So at this time, my social media presence was not very wide spread. Couple that with the fact that I was writing my first book and building a speaking career.
What did you find as a result of using a blog/social media?
As a result of using social media and edifying that Successful Thinkers event, the founder then began edifying me and it launched my professional speaking career. My first speaking engagement was for a Successful Thinkers event. That was on January 4, 2010. Jump ahead nearly one year later, and the founder of Successful Thinkers, Jim Bellacera and I just shared the same stage on January 21, 2011 at a non Successful Thinkers event.
Using social media not only launched my speaking career, but it also opened the door for me to be a contributing author to the book, Align, Expand and Succeed. I put aside the book I was writing to do this project, and what I learned through the process is priceless. But through social media and blogging we were able to hit #1 in four categories on Amazon.
What specific feature do you like most blogging/social media?
What I like most about social media, is that you can meet some of the most amazing people on the planet. I love building incredible relationships with incredible people. And I especially love it when I can take the online connection, off-line and meet people in person. I love that it opens up the world in ways that could never have been done otherwise.
What other benefits did you experience from blogging/social media?
One of the most amazing benefits is when I am out and about, how many people say they recognize me. They say things like, "Oh, I follow you on Twitter," or "We're friends on Facebook," or "I see you all over the Internet." It is great to meet folks off-line and brings a smile to my face every time.
