I started blogging as an experiment. I've been doing it on behalf of clients for years now but had never tried controlling my own area of the web. My wife decided to join me in a new little blog and its been amazing. I've learned more about blogging (and social media) in two months than I have in years. Its a great refresh for me professionally, and extremely rewarding personally.

Vanessa

Because it's fun to share what you know with others and feel like you are helping them!

Cheryl Pickett

I agree with the reasons you listed Denise, and with Vanessa above. Of all the choices of ways to get one's message out, I'd say blogging is in my top 2 or 3 as far as enjoying it, not just doing it because it's a good thing to do. In addition, it's practicing what I preach :-).

The traffic doesn't lie! Since we started our corporate blog, you can see a giant uptick in unique visitors to our site. Even if every visitor doesn't turn into a customer, it's more people who have come in contact with your company. We follow a strategy of tweeting out our new blog posts as well, and that only amplifies the effect. Thanks for a great reminder, too, that you need to continue asking yourself why you're blogging...even if you THINK you know...

Annette and Snoopy

Great question and one that I actually tackled last week as part of a pet blog challenge......:)

My answers are on my post http://snoopysdogblog.com/2011/01/why-do-i-do-this/

Enjoy :)

Amazing to see this here Denise. Like Annette and Snoopy above, it was also a question I answered on the WPUA Blog. I agree with the reasons you listed and that about covers it for business bloggers.

Must have been something in the air, as I had no idea others were contemplating and writing about this question as this moment in time. Thanks for your responses...blog on!

Creative Katrina

I think the most important part of blogging (besides the comments above) is doing it because you enjoy it. If it supports your business, great! But if the authenticity and joy does not come through in the content, people will pick up on that and the true value of the blogging is lost.

Riverwoodwriter

Thanks, Denise, for the reminder to keep this question (Why do you blog?) at the forefront of our minds. Clarity in answering this question definitely helps focus me on choosing the most appropriate blog content.

I blog to share and teach the joy and power of connection: with Self, with Others, with Source/God, and with Nature. Cultivating these connections has enriched my own life, and I believe anyone can learn to strengthen their own essential connections, even if they're not a naturally outgoing person.

MicroSourcing

It's an important question to remember when making crucial decisions about your blog. For instance, when you finally consider outsourcing blog posts, is it in line with why you got into blogging in the first place?
