Online Visibility Tip: While I was working on an article for Social Media Examiner, I was exploring the concept of outreach, or reaching out to others in your industry (aka commenting) to set the groundwork for more opportunities. This also applies to creating visibility for you and your business.
While it may seem obvious and you've heard it many times before, most business bloggers do not spend enough time on blog outreach. The video includes three sources to find related blogs in your niche. [Click here if you cannot see the video in your blog reader.)
I'm curious to know how often you comment on other blogs? I know I could put more time and effort into this tactic because I know it works!

You're absolutely right, Elizabeth. I often recommend to clients that they start by READING blogs first, before they create and publish their own. This gives you a great opportunity to figure out what you like, what works and begin the relationship building process.

Scott, thanks for your very useful comment! ;-)
You're tips about being the first to comment and watch your top bloggers on twitter are excellent. One way to do this is by creating a list on twitter or a group in Tweetdeck (or other twitter management tool) so you can see those blog tweets first.

In my reply to Scott, I mentioned setting up a twitter list to watch your favorite bloggers. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, here's a post I did about twitter lists on Biz Tips Blog:

Denise,
I am not as regular with the commenting as I would like to be. But I definitely see its value (and encourage people in our blogging classes to do it).
I have had some very cool things happen as a result of reaching out: guest posts, opportunities for interviews and guest presentations in podcasts. And I so agree that finding the right blogs to comment on is critical to one's success. Thanks for the great advice!

Great ideas Denise. It seems like we need constant reminders about actually scheduling time for your blog. I'd venture to say that actually scheduling time to post and comment is one of the biggest indicators of whether your blog will be successful. After all, just writing a goal down improves the chance of success.

I think this post would really help. Especially in the building of relationships to other markets the following years. At least for now we will be able to plan for our future. And that we should keep in mind. See seo marketing zone too. you will learn a lot of things here too.

Nice video. Some great informations to be absorbed from this post. I've also put this on my "need to do daily" list. I've neglected commenting and I know it's important. Thanks a bunch for sharing. Keep blogging.
