Online Visibility Tip: While I was working on an article for Social Media Examiner, I was exploring the concept of outreach, or reaching out to others in your industry (aka commenting) to set the groundwork for more opportunities. This also applies to creating visibility for you and your business.
While it may seem obvious and you've heard it many times before, most business bloggers do not spend enough time on blog outreach. The video includes three sources to find related blogs in your niche. [Click here if you cannot see the video in your blog reader.)
I'm curious to know how often you comment on other blogs? I know I could put more time and effort into this tactic because I know it works!

I think commenting on blogs is vital, as you can get more exposure to your blog and build a name for your self by being a active member on blogs. It also brings a bit of traffic.
I comment on minimum 10 blogs a day. Of course if I have more time and read more I will comment more.

Great advice, Denise! I read blogs daily and try to comment when I can add value to what the author has written. And it does work! Bob Sutton is one of the best leadership bloggers around. I had visited his site for several years and commented from occasionally. On July 15, he blogged about my blog (see link below) and my site got a big boost!

As always Denise, great recommendations. I like the part about being strategic in the process. And finding the right blogs to comment on.
Also, your tip on where to find the right blogs to comment on. Excelletn.

i've put this on my "need to do daily" list. I've neglected commenting and I know it's important.

This really resonates, Denise. I confess I have not even started a blog yet, but I HAVE started reading others' blogs, learning how they're done, and occasionally commenting and participating in the discussions. This turns out to be a surprisingly easy way to get on the radar screen of someone who has way more visibility than I do and will hopefully pay dividends, especially if I ever get to meet them face-to-face.

Time consuming but I do it religiously, Denise. You're the one that got me started on this path.
Cheers.

In the past I would comment alot on other blogs to gain visibility on my own from people and search engines. Then I started to get busy with other tasks and commenting took a back seat.

I typically leave valuable comments on at least two blogs each day. Like your suggestion, they are blogs written by people who I am continuing to nurture a relationship with and their target audience is the same as mine.
I don't like leaving generic comments like, "Great post". I also don't chose a blog to comment on simply because it has a high readership...
The blogs that I comment on the most are written by people who create thought provoking and wonderful content. The better the content and more thought provoking it is, the better my comments tend to be. It sparks a great conversation which blog commenting really should be.
The more helpful (resourceful) a comment is, the more likely I am to click on the person's link to learn more about them.
I do try to be one of the first to comment on a blog post as well. This ensures that more people could possibly read my comment.
I find that a lot of blog authors will tweet about their blog post before they even send it out to their subscribers. It helps to keep an eye on the blog author on Twitter so you can be the first to know when they've published a great blog post.
Thanks for the great tips Denise. Blog ON! You ROCK!

Wow! 10 blogs a day. I'm truly impressed. I manage 2-3 blog comments a day.

Bret, this is a great example how building blogging relationships can pay off over time. Who knows where it can lead from here. Thanks for sharing your story.
