This past week I was interviewed for an article about how to use a blog to promote an information product. At this point I can't say anything about the article or the type of info product but when it's published, I'll share the link.
I use the term "info product" as a generic term for ebook, special report, white paper, e-course. The author wanted to know how a business blog can be used to promote this type of product and identify the process. I figured this would be a good blog post topic too!
A blog is a content marketing tool so it’s the ideal vehicle for promoting any kind of info product which generally are based on content.
Here are a couple of ideas I shared:
- First, the most obvious way to promote any type of product on a blog is to make sure there is a visual image on the blog linked to the download or sales page.
- Next, your blog can be used to build anticipation by writing posts exploring the theme of the product that is being created. Use the blog to ask for feedback in the way of comments and with polls and surveys. A blog is a great research tool.
- Once the product is published, extract key elements to highlight in blog posts, giving readers a taste of the content and of course including a call to action to get the whole enchilada.
- Don't forget to write a post announcing the product.
- Remember to always add value in your blog posts. Don't simply tease the reader; give real, tangible value so they want to take the next step and get more.
- Use social marketing tools like Twitter and Facebook to drive people to your blog with the detailed content.
- Always have a call to action in the blog post, inviting readers to learn more, get the report, etc. Including a banner ad or image of the product in the post always adds visual appeal and reinforces your message.
