There's more than one way to gain massive visibility online. And we're not just talking about a website or a blog. That's just the start of what we call an "online visibility plan."
I believe business owners and professionals who want to use the Internet to attract more clients are beginning to get the picture. Each time we present at conferences, we ask how many have a blog and the numbers are rising.
As The Blog Squad, we've been beating that drum for almost 4 years now. But the drum beat is beginning to sound more like the percussion section of a philharmonic orchestra - not louder, just more complex. Because there's more to effective Internet marketing than just "the blog."
From our own experience and those of our clients, you need the following four elements in order to get massive visibility and gain the trust of online visitors in your niche:
- A business blog (where you communicate in a conversational tone)
- A brand (where you use design to help people to remember you)
- Valuable, relevant content (to educate and engage with readers)
- Participation in Social Networking sites (where you become easily accessible)
All four elements are necessary, and like the song goes, “You can’t have one without the other.”
Becoming massively visible on the Web means more than just a website and a blog. You now have the opportunity to be “everywhere.”
You must be prolific with publishing content, consistent with your branding, and accessible in social networking sites if you want to leverage the Internet and create massive visibility.
WHY? Why are we saying this?
I can hear some of you whining: "First everyone tells me, you must have a blog. Now they say that’s not enough: You must have good branding. Geez, now I have to be on Facebook & Twitter?"
Why is business blogging, branding and social networking so important?
Because these tools – a business blog and social media tools that are well-branded – work, they get good results. In fact, what we are talking about here are tools that are:
- Easy
- Inexpensive
- Available for the average user
- AND POWERFUL!
They get the job done. You don’t have to spend a lot of time, money or energy. What can be better than that? And if you learn how to set these tools up, there are tips and tactics to save you time. There's a point to doing this: rapid and massive visibility.
(Calm down now, you don't have to hire someone or start working more than your usual 10-12 hours a day. If you subscribe and keep coming back here to this blog, Denise and I will show you some time-saving tricks to make all this work -- in the same amount of time you used to spend going to some of those breakfast networking meetings that didn't bring you much business anyway. You'll save gas and time, we promise!)

Great tips ladies. It seems daunting at first for many business owners, but the rewards are so much greater than they can ever imagine :-)

I'd be curious as to results in what businesses? All of them? Brick and mortar? On-line only?
I don't disagree with being visible, but what types of businesses benefit from the work?

Scott, great question to which I don't have an answer. Maybe some smart cookie will do a survey soon and gather the data. Anecdotal information leads me to believe that for now, service businesses are benefiting, for sure, whereby the person offering services is demonstrating their values through their conversations. Readers/friends, etc. are getting to know them, and are more inclined to do business with them. Hope that helps.

I believe that the application of these ideas may really depend on not only a person's business but their ability to creatively use the tools you are referring to as well as their temperament for being persistent in the face of almost no real visible results in the very beginning of any of these endeavors -
In otherwords - a person has to have a vision in order to be able to persist long enough putting in the work required to make any of these ideas and tools viable -

Great insights, Walter, thanks for sharing those thoughts. I think you may be right on the nail. Also, I think it works when you eventually make friends with similar philosophies and values, working in the same or similar niches where you have meaningful exchanges. Otherwise, it's all small talk, and that's a waste of time. I think you have to take the plunge and stimulate people to think before they will respond.
