As the Blog Squad, we proclaim that business blogs are “the best darn marketing tool on the Planet!” To us, a business blog that's optimized for branding and content marketing is the Ferrari of marketing tools.
And just like a Ferrari shouldn't be left in the garage only to be driven on Sundays, you need to use your blog consistently in order to get the benefits.
But let’s face it: it’s not about “THE BLOG,” is it? It’s about your results and your PROFITABILITY! It doesn’t matter if you have all the shiny marketing pieces in place, if you’re not profitable!
If you’ve got the best business blog in the world, it doesn’t matter…if it isn’t bringing you results. Some people don't know how to drive a Ferrari, they just don't know how...
Now, there are a million ways to spend huge sums of money, waste hours of your time, and exhaust your energies with Internet marketing.
And blogging is a great way to go down a time sucking hole and get lost for hours on end.
Yes, we're The Blog Squad and I really did say that… blogging can be a big fat waste of your time, if you're not careful...
We’ve seen it happen. We see great blogs all the time. And we also see some pretty poor ones. It doesn't matter if you've got the Ferrari of marketing tools, if you're not using it right.
It’s about profitability, results, and – and I always throw this one in – IT’S ABOUT COMFORT.
Comfort?
What’s COMFORT got to do with anything? What does comfort have to do with blogs or with profitability?
I say your blogging has to be comfortable. If you’re not comfortable with your blog, the way it looks, the way it feels, with what you write, then you’re not going to get good results, and eventually you’ll stop posting, it’ll get neglected, and eventually abandoned.
It’s true. We always pay attention to the things that give us most pleasure and the most comfort.
I want you to think about this. If you’re not comfortable about your blogging, it’s probably not going to get results. It’s probably not going to be profitable.
And if you’re not comfortable with blogging, there are probably some very good reasons for that. But until you figure out:
- what's missing for you
- why you're not writing more frequently on your blog
- why you're not communicating your message
...you'll be stuck with your Ferrari in the garage. Nobody will know you've got that Ferrari.
[Note: if you can't figure it out, then get some help; ask us to do a blog critique for you.]
You'll stay invisible. And the people who need your services won't be able to find you and beat a path to your door, begging you for your help. And that's a pity.

Patsi,
I second what you said about needing to feel comfortable with your blog, particularly with your content.
We check in regularly with our business blog clients to make sure they're feeling comfortable with the tone of the articles on their blog. Recently had a comment from one client, who had requested that their blog go more "green," content-wise. Our ghost writer responded enthusiastically, creating all sorts of wonderful "green" posts.
A few weeks later, the client came to us, saying, "Um...the ghost writer has gone a little TOO green."
Finding that balance is key, particularly with a business blog where every reader is a potential customer.

Thanks, Laura, for your comments. You raise a good point - I guess some people are using ghost writers for their blogs; I wonder how that works for connecting and building relationships with clients?
