Blog World Expo Returns to Las Vegas in September

It's back! Blog World Expo debuted in Las Vegas last year and it was a fantastic event. If you missed it last year, you can attend this year. The line up of speakers is excellent and includes your's truly speaking on a panel about How to Plan, Build and Promote a Blog for Small Business.

Like last year, this panel includes Rich Brooks of flyte blog (moderator), John T. Unger (TypePad Hacks) and Des Walsh.

Why Business Blogs Are Like Ferraris

As the Blog Squad, we proclaim that business blogs are “the best darn marketing tool on the Planet!” To us, a business blog that's optimized for branding and content marketing is the Ferrari of marketing tools.

And just like a Ferrari shouldn't be left in the garage only to be driven on Sundays, you need to use your blog consistently in order to get the benefits.

But let’s face it: it’s not about “THE BLOG,” is it? It’s about your results and your PROFITABILITY! It doesn’t matter if you have all the shiny marketing pieces in place, if you’re not profitable!

If you’ve got the best business blog in the world, it doesn’t matter…if it isn’t bringing you results. Some people don't know how to drive a Ferrari, they just don't know how...

Blog Action Day is October 15

Can bloggers change the world? Maybe. We'll only know if we make an effort. To that end, I'll be participating in Blog Action Day 08.

Last year bloggers created conversations about the environment. This year the topic is POVERTY. So far over 900 bloggers have signed on to write about poverty on October 15, 2008. I will be writing from my perspective over on BizTipsBlog.

If you're a blogger, about any subject, you can join Blog Action Day and create the conversation from your perspective. You have an audience and you can help bring awareness to a critical issue affecting our world.

The organizers of the the nonprofit site also suggest you donate your earnings from that day to one of several organizations that work to end poverty. One of the organization is Kiva.org, a micro-lending site that I currently support by making micro loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries.

$25 in Togo can go a long way in helping a business person build a better, stronger more successful business. That, in turn can help a person get themselves and their family out of poverty. Tutorial Update: Mapping Your Blog Domain

A quick note to let you know we have recently updated the tutorial for mapping a domain to your TypePad blog.  You can get the new tutorial here.

Not sure why you should map your domain?

When you set up your blog on TypePad, the URL for your blog includes TypePad's domain:  www.yourblog.typepad.com

For example, the underlying domain for this blog is nextlevelpartner.typepad.com/babb but the domain you see, that's mapped over the TypePad domain is www.buildabetterblog.com. Which is better? :-)

Rather than promote TypePad, you really need to brand you, your company, your book...whatever your blog is about.  You need to register a domain and then map it OVER the TypePad domain so you are promoting YOUR business and establishing your online brand.
