Since one of the most common complaints among our clients is "I don't have enough time to blog!" I'm experimenting with speed blogging this week. Everything I post will be done in under 30 minutes, to prove it can be done. (This post will be done in under 20 minutes because I want to get out the door and onto the tennis courts...!)
How to do this:
- Keep a notepad open and when you have an idea for post, write down the main points
- Keep a list of links that are relevant to the post, any other sites, places you visited where the topic was discussed, books you read, etc.
- Post directly into your blogging software, link, and save as a draft.
- Keep lots of royalty free images in picture folders for the topics you usually write about.
- Insert an appropriate photo, edit the post, save, and publish now.
Time elapsed since starting this post: 8 minutes.
Who says they don't have time to write on their business blog? For me, it's the fastest marketing tool I've every used. Heck, I even had time to start a load of wash so I'll have clean socks on the courts...

I can only blog by speed blogging so i am with you on this one. I use Blogjet which is a nifty piece of software that sits on my desktop. I can add a new posting on any of my blogs from the one screen and I find it much quicker than waiting for my broadband connection to show Typepad or Wordpress - hey, I am very impatient :)

One of my favorite speed blogging tips is to see what's the breaking news in a particular industry, write up a paragraph or two of my take on it, provide links to relevant blogs in my niche and post.
It works out quite well, actually.

Speed blogging, I like it. I also use Blogjet which is very user friendly and I love the idea of keeping a notebook.
I have to keep one next to my bed because most of my best thinking occurs while I'm trying to get some sleep! A few months ago, I had a great idea for an article but was too lazy to get out of bed and write it down. By the next morning, the idea had evaporated!

I'm using Qumana blog editors. Most of my blog posts were indexed by Google within 30 mins. Some within 10 mins.

Speedblogging. I am at the state of turtleblogging. I will get there though.

My last blog post stats:
10 minutes to write the post
40 minutes to come up with a good headline (and don't actually know if I succeeded)
30 minutes looking for an appropriate picture. (gave up)
Not only am I not speedblogging, I think I'm going backwards...

You guys have made me chuckle out loud, so that's a big gift. Karen, Barbara, Meryln, Ainuddin, I'm not familiar with BlogJet or Qumana, and with Typepad I don't think I need things like that. I post directly onto the 'compose a post' page and do everything from there.
Searching for photos can take a coon's age, because you can really get lost in space waiting for photos to download. That's why I do that in my spare time when I'm too brain dead to do any real work.
I save images to folders where I can easily find them and when it comes time to post, they are already handy.
Thanks Joan and Mark for evoking a mental image of a turtle blogging backwards!
