Problogger Darren Rowse: Useful and Unique

"How do you know what is good content for your blog?" This question was submitted by a listener on our webcast interview with Problogger Darren Rowse yesterday.

For many people, Darren is the go-to guy for learning how to make money with blogs. But what most people don't realize is that Darren pays a lot of attention to content for his blogs.

According to Darren, "For your blog to be successful, your content needs to be useful and unique to your readers."

Of course then you have to figure out what is useful and unique to your readers! Darren has studied this quite a bit, and his own blog Problogger.net, with 48,000 subscribers, shows that he's figured that out for his readers there.

In his book Problogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income, co-authored with Chris Garrett, he lists six types of useful content:

1. Entertainment
2. Education
3. Information
4. Debate
5. News
6. Community

What kind of useful content are you creating for your readers? Every blog is different, but to be successful you've got to capture the hearts and minds of readers.

Maybe your blog will never get 48,000 people to subscribe to it. You won't even get 48 if you don't write useful and unique content.

I listened to your interview with Darren. Amazing! seems a bit of an understatement when I think about how much he shared. He is a wealth of knowledge.

I found it very encouraging to hear him talk about his photography blog. It was also nice to hear him share the process of what began as a hobby to becoming a very successful business.
