Denise posted a video clip recently about one of our pet peeves: blog authors not easily identifying themselves on their blog. Don't make your blog mysterious!
Here are 3 things you must try to include in the tag line in the banner. The tag line follows the title of the blog and should really be clear about these points:
- Who is the blog for - try to specifically define who needs to read this
- What's in it for the readers - think benefits not features. How are you going to enrich their lives?
- Your name and some sort of identifying title - not your credentials, but something akin to "blog expert" or "author of..."
As always when naming a product or service, be clear. Clarity trumps being clever. Being simple is a good idea too. Don't use jargon or terms you use that people might have to think about.
This is tough work. If you've already done it, examine your blog tag line for these three elements and see if you can't make your tag line better by include these 3 bits of information.
Denise and I spend quite a bit of time with the blog naming process when we work setting up new blogs for people. It's the first thing visitors will read and will determine if they click away or stay to read.
Blogs are excellent tools for branding and expanding your brand. Make it easy for readers to grasp what you're all about. Don't make your blog a mystery!

Yes, Blogs are taking prime role in the industry of internet marketing , especially for generating internet based traffic and conversions.

Seeing the image of the guy with the bag on his head reminds me of how I felt when I started blogging in Jan 08. I was of mixed feelings revealing characteristics of myself ... yes, I want to build credibility and a respectable brand and want to captivate the interest of my ideal audience - BUT - part of me wanted to stay in the bag ... why invite phishing and scamming and the interest of ne-er do wells?
What are your thoughts on balancing "shameless self-promotion" with "sensible self-protection"?
