This post is #1000 on Build a Better Blog. Whoo hoo! The first post - a pretty boring one announcing the new blog - was published on February 16, 2005. It's been a great ride. As of this moment, we've had 105,914 visitors and 185,432 page views.
Now we're celebrating. Each day this week, Monday through Friday, we're giving away a $12 Amazon.com gift certificate to a reader who comments on that day's blog post, answering a specific question. The winners will be chosen at random from the submitted comments. Your comment post must answer the daily question and every comment counts as an entry for that day's give-away. Make sure you include your correct primary email address in the email field so we can contact you if you're the winner. You may play every day!
Monday's Question:
How do you think blogging will evolve over the next few years?
Enter to win today's contest by answering the question in the comment section below.
Good luck and blog on!

I also think blogs will continue to get more specifically targetted toward the audience they're reaching. And there will be many more "organization" - informal and formal ones -- blogs, increasing (but not necessarily improving) communication. I'm not much of a visionary, so I don't easily imagine what "will be"-- but I have a hunch about what will continue. Blogs will continue to be about people sharing thoughts and information. And they'll only "come" if they can gain access easily, quickly and get something very worthwhile from the experience. That never changes, does it?
My best to both of you and your success. You're a great role model in how to build community. Rosalind

I think blogs will replace websites as "creating community" becomes de riguer for businesses. That said, I agree with the person on niches coming to the fore. Better ways to quickly access blogs/information in niches will be created. Because there are so many, it will become necessary for it to become easier to segment/use key words. Niche businesses will use blogs to identify their "community" where they can trade information and ideas (such as many in the arts do already today, no matter what age). I'd love to see blogs go to MP3s so that I could listen to all my favorites as I work in the studio!

Blogs will be the primary communications medium for thought leadership.
Professional firms and small businesses are always seeking ways to communicate with their clients, and position their businesses to a more forward-looking reputation - blogs are very cost-effective and is always available for the casual visitor.
