This post is #1000 on Build a Better Blog. Whoo hoo! The first post - a pretty boring one announcing the new blog - was published on February 16, 2005. It's been a great ride. As of this moment, we've had 105,914 visitors and 185,432 page views.
Now we're celebrating. Each day this week, Monday through Friday, we're giving away a $12 Amazon.com gift certificate to a reader who comments on that day's blog post, answering a specific question. The winners will be chosen at random from the submitted comments. Your comment post must answer the daily question and every comment counts as an entry for that day's give-away. Make sure you include your correct primary email address in the email field so we can contact you if you're the winner. You may play every day!
Monday's Question:
How do you think blogging will evolve over the next few years?
Enter to win today's contest by answering the question in the comment section below.
Good luck and blog on!

I think blogging will become multi-media, in other words, including both the spoken word and video.

I think blogging will be the major marketing replacement for the brochures that most companies produce. Blogging is an economical way to change information, add and remove photos, collect and promote testimonials and will provide much more information that any brochure could. I believe that most marketers will find this avenue most appealing!

Blogging is the communication tool now and even more for tomorrow! Companies and individuals alike will use blogs to reach customers as never before. We like to "hear" on a personal level about products and services that will improve our businesses and our lives. "Being a part of" has really brought blogs to the forefront of global interaction!

Over the next several years, we should expect to see a major increase in midlife bloggers--the baby boomer generation. As our traditional social circle grows smaller due to the loss of loved ones, many of us will be looking for ways to broaden our network to include old and new friends from afar.
Blogging offers people in midlife, like me, an easy way to communicate with great people. I believe that with a little coaching and a little blog training, many midlifers will overcome any technical learning curve. Sites like yours will help others enter the blogosphere as it has helped me. Thanks for all you do here at the Blog Squad.
Happy 1000th!

The function of blogs will expand.
Blogging will evolve as a troika.
The first division is 'journaling', social networking which will continue.
The second division focuses on business relationships: (Blog Squad would be an example) list building, establishing expertise, vehicle for communication which will also continue and be refined.
The 3rd phase: a business tool for selling and marketing with new software and technologies that have yet to be created.

I agree with just about everything the others have said...
PLUS, I think that it will be the primary tool of the medium and small business, particularly the ma & pa operation -- a means of differentiating oneself from faceless chains.
PLUS, I think it will continue to merge with the traditional website aesthetically and practically,
PLUS, I believe it will replace (or perhaps continue to replace) a lot of public relations functions, particularly in internal communications -- especially in academics and other areas where the "offices" are spread out.

Blogging will take over printed copy of newspapers and periodicals as blogs will contain commentary, news, and the source of the information.
Blogs will be live feeds as well.
Blogs will be primarily video that will be become the new tv commercials.
Bloggers will be able to pay for spots and the listening audience will be able to access the bloggers web site by their tv remote control.
This technology will also be available to ipods, cell phones, and the new Dick Tracy cell phone, computer, wrist watches.

Blogs will be broadcast live over the internet by feeds and will replace current printed newspapers and magazines as the source for information.
Blogs will replace television commercials we currently see run. Bloggers will pay for spots.
Blogs will be accessed by i-pods, computers, cell phones, and the new Dick Tracy computer, cell phone, wrist watches.

Hi...
Firstly, congratulations Patsi and Denise for a remarkable achievement! I like many others have gained so much from your postings... it's like you have us to your place on a regular basis! And I love that.
I see blogging will evolve to an even stronger communication tool. There are many people out there in cyber land who are unable, for lots of legitimate reasons, to get out there in the real world.
The Internet has made communicating with a wide variety of people, in every corner of the world, on every conceivable topic, incredibly easy. And blogging is so much part of that now.
Setting up a web page can be quite daunting (talking from experience)... but setting up a blog is really easy and affordable (often free). I think that blogging will become necessary for anybody who wants to get their message out there. And I think it will soon become much more sophisticated and incorporate things like video and podcasts -- these tools will become necessary.
I love being part of the blogging age... and even not being a techie, I'm excited about where blogging is going to take me. I've got my seat belt on and I'm ready for the journey.
To your continued success Patsi and Denise...
Best wishes
Jeanne
