There are two subjects converging for us this week: 1) creating and monetizing content and 2) protecting your creative assets a.k.a. your content.
First, as a blogger, you are constantly writing content based on your expertise. Every time you post, you are publishing that valuable information on the Web. After a while, as you see your posts build up, you may begin to wonder what you can do with all that content, how can you make money from your content, how do you repurpose it to serve your clients even better?
Every so often a product is launched that I wish I had created. This week that happened to me. Brian Clark of Copyblogger fame, launched his Teaching Sells program. After reviewing the free report and the first module of his educational program, I wish I had developed this comprehensive program on how to leverage your expertise into powerful multimedia teaching systems that can create additional streams of income for you.
Patsi and I have been engaged in content development for years. We preach content development and product creation to all our clients and our Mentees. We assist our clients with creating info products and then marketing them on the web. We advise professionals to start blogging in order to create content that can be turned into books and info products.
So if you haven't been convinced by us, Brian Clark has come up with a methodical program that takes this concept and elegantly guides you step by step through the process of creating multimedia teaching programs. As Brian says:
Our accelerated world demands that everyone become a lifelong learner, and that's why those who can effectively teach online will never worry about income. These teachers will live where they want, make as much money as they desire, and enjoy their lives as they see fit.
Check out the Teaching Sells free report and decide for yourself. The Teaching Sells online training program launched on Tuesday and a three month charter membership is only $97. After that the investment goes up.
OK, now for the second part of the equation.
How do you protect your content from thieves? How can you be proactive about protecting your intellectual assets -- your online training programs, your blog, your info products, your articles, your website?
As we create, we usually don't think about these issues, preferring to naively believe people are inherently good and will not rip off our content. Hah! It's happened to me personally when an entire website was copied with only the name of the person changed. Even the testimonials on the site were from our clients!
That's why we are passionate about learning how to protect our business and creative work. And you should be too. I try to avoid using the word "should" whenever possible, but I use it purposely here.
As content development and delivery becomes THE primary way for professionals to monetize their expertise, the convergence of how to develop and how to protect comes at the perfect time.
On Tuesday, October 30, we are hosting an important teleseminar with intellectual property attorney Jay Hollander so you can learn what you MUST know to protect your creative assets. Even if you cannot attend, we urge to register because you will get the program on CD and we pay for the shipping.
Don't want to scare you; just keep in you informed and ahead of the curve.

Just because Brian Clark is "in the process" of producing a "comprehensive program on how to leverage your expertise into powerful multimedia teaching systems that can create additional streams of income for you" doesn't mean you'll just end up with I-wish-I-had's, right?
I say, go for it, Patsi and Denise! :-)
