The Blog Squad Survey Frequently Asked Question: What is the number one thing I can do to get started on the Internet?
We are reviewing results of our Blog Squad Survey where 415 people took time out of their busy lives to tell us about the most important issues of their businesses.
People asked us, "What is the number one thing I can do to get started on the Internet?" It may not be a surprise that our answer is:
“Start blogging today, right away, now.”
Denise and I built a business within the last 2 ½ years since we started blogging. We can honestly say that since Fall 2004 we grew our list ten fold, and tripled our revenues.
Luck? Money? You can’t have success without both luck and strengths, I believe. And work too.
We were lucky to discover blogging at the time we did; AND we were smart to recognize it as a powerful tool that fulfilled a great need to a large number of people readily accessible through the Internet.
We immediately set out to establish our blogs as authoritative sites on blogging, ezines and Internet marketing tips. We also built sales pages to go with each informational product and service we created. We used our blogs to drive traffic to the sales pages.
We didn’t have a budget to begin with and didn’t invest anything other than our brains, energy and time.
You too can build a powerful online presence for your business. To do that, you have to let people know what problems you can solve for them, and you need to show them who you are. A blog is simply the best way to start to do that.
We see many people who want a profitable online business without putting in the work to make it happen. It’s fine to hire people if you have funds; but doing it yourself, building from the ground up has merit. You know how to fix problems when clients can’t get the shopping cart to work. You know how to write a sales page and the autoresponder series to follow up with your marketing.
Yes, some luck, some money, a lot of time, and – guess what? A lot of work, as well. Even when the software makes it easy, you’ve still got to set up and use it properly.
Luck, talent, time, energy, work – but it doesn’t end there. We also care a lot about what you do and are committed to helping you get what you need to grow your business online.
Our mission is to help you attract, sell and profit online. We take your feedback seriously and are continually improving when we see and hear from you about a need.
Stay tuned to our blogs and ezines as we address your questions and provide answers to your biggest business challenges.

While I agree that starting a blog is a good way to create a web presence - it's not the first step, although it may the #1!
The absolute first step must be to secure a domain name as this will become the focus for your online marketing efforts as I explain on the Tetsou Blogg - What's In a Name http://www.tetsou.co.uk/cms2/archives/3
