Love the Scott Adam's Dilbert Blog! He writes a clever post about the new TV show Smarter Than A 5th Grader. I am delighted to find something humorous to spark up my morning blog cruises.
But I hate it when there's no FeedBlitz subscription form. I like getting blog updates delivered in my inbox. Fortunately, I know the secret of how to subscribe via a feed. I right clicked on the "Add RSS Feed", then right clicked on Properties, copied the rdf file URL in the little window, and added it to Add Content on My Yahoo page.
But how many readers know how to do that? Those are steps I learned a long time ago before it was common to have subscription forms and little RSS icons where all you have to do is click and submit.
It's a good thing I'm smarter than a 5th grader and know how to subscribe to Scott Adam's blog. I think I'll go leave him a comment and see if it does any good. Surely he has people who can take care of this for him...

You are making an excellent point Denise!

Hi Guys
You could also just:
1. right-click on the RSS and copy the link location
2. go to http://www.feedblitz.com and paste the rss into the field provided
3. hit the "subscribe" button
Feedblitz lets you subscribe for email feeds whether the blog provides that service or not. You can even do it without the RSS address using the blog's URL.

Marc, thanks so much for that tip! I did not know that; I'm sure Denise did, she knows everything about Feedblitz. I just followed what you said and it worked. Actually, they make it so simple because you don't even know where or how to find the RSS URL. Just copy the blog URL in the browser and then paste it in a box on the FeedBlitz home page where it says, "Subscribe me to this blog"... then of course you go through the usual captcha thing and confirm an email. Brilliant.

Yes, I knew this. Phil Hollows has talked about it. Still doesn't make it easy for the reader who doesn't know, to subscribe. In my humble opinion, you shouldn't have to be "in the know" to be able to subscribe. Bloggers need to take responsibility and make it as easy as possible for their readers to get their blog updates. It's still a small percent who know what RSS is or how to use it. Email is ubiquitous and people understand how to subscribe and get it. You just need to make it available.
