I'm loving all the comments about why people are blogging, why they use their platform of choice, etc. Be sure to click through and read the comments to the various questions. Paul Chaney's provocative blogging questions continue...
How have you used blogs in your business? How significant a role has blogging played in your marketing efforts?
Significant? Blogs have changed my business completely. When I realized what a powerful tool blogs could be for businesses, I dove in head-first. Patsi and I studied TypePad in depth and taught a teleclass for coaches about how to set up a blog. That turned into a blog about blogging (this blog), then it evolved into an ebook, Build a Better Blog, then it became a TeleSeries called Conversations with Experts (Paul Chaney was our very first guest and since then we've done 62 Conversations!). Next came consulting and training and setting up blogs for clients. A whole new business was born and Patsi and I officially became The Blog Squad and business partners, merging our two businesses into one in July 2006, nearly 2 years after we started blogging.
Blogs are not my only marketing tool, but a primary one. We have 10+ blogs. Each has a different purpose, whether as a private training system, a private membership blog for clients only, for the public to learn more about blogs, Internet marketing and ezines, or as a way to focus and feature a specific project.
Blogs have extended the reach of my business in ways I could never imagine. I've met more amazing people through blogging in the past 2 years, than in the prior 8 years of working online. More joint ventures have happened, speaking gigs have materialized, publication opportunities... I could go on and on. Suffice to say, blogs have changed my business AND my life, for the best.
Your turn. Do you use a blog for your business and if so, how?
