About Page: How to Write a Good One
About pages on blogs should be written with the reader in mind. When people first come to your blog, what do you think their questions are? Put yourself in your typical reader's head for a moment.
I would want to know who is writing this blog? What does he/she have to say that will be valuable for me? What kinds of problems is he/she going to solve or write about, and is this really worth my time to stay and read? What makes this author credible?
Darren Rowse of Problogger shares 4 essential questions readers want answered on your About page:
- who you are…
- your expertise and how it addresses…
- their problem or goal, and how they can…
- contact you
I see a lot of About pages that go on and on about who the author is, and all their education and experience. But if you don't tie it in to what's important to the reader, then you will lose them.
