I'm going to carry on with the "how to pitch bloggers" theme here because I want to show you an example of a pitch that worked on me.
Last week I received an email (personalized) from Erin Markey of LightFull Foods. She had read my Slim People in Progress blog and wanted to let me know about a new product that I might be interested in. Erin did everything right with her pitch and not only did she get my attention, she turned me into a word-of-mouth spokesperson for it. I put the content of the email in a pdf file so you can study it. I also highlighted some key points to notice in the pitch.
Why did I get this pitch? Well, I write on a personal blog about weight loss and fitness. I'm a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and have been successful with the program. Obviously Erin did her research and/or was subscribed to my blog and thought that her product would be a good match for my readers. I can guarantee you that I would not have received this pitch without the blog. And LightFull would not have found me without the blog. Maybe Erin attended our class on how to pitch bloggers!
When you look at the email, you'll notice a few things:
- The note was personalized and mentioned the name of my blog
- The product perfectly matches an area of interest on my blog
- My attention is immediately grabbed by the fact her product only has 1 point (a very big deal for Weight Watchers!)
- I'm invited to interact with the company by taking a challenge.
- My interest in helping others is further addressed by letting me know that the company will donate money to good causes
- Last, and certainly not least, I'm offered FREE SAMPLES. I cannot resist.
I responded to Erin immediately. That's a good pitch! I also posted about the product on my blog and will do so again now that I've received the product and tried it (it really is good and filling).
I received the samples two days ago. In the package were 3 full size sample, lots of coupons for me to take to my WW meeting, and a press kit.
I'm interested in your thoughts, comments, ideas about this real life example of a successful pitch to a blogger.
