This is not new news, but I ran across this page while researching the number of blogs. It's from David Sifry, CEO, on Technorati's annual State of the Blogosphere report in August 2006. It shows the phenomenal growth of blogs since 2002.
On July 31, 2006, Technorati tracked its 50 millionth blog. The blogosphere that Technorati tracks continues to show significant growth...
Technorati has been tracking the blogosphere, or world of weblogs, since November 2002, and I'm constantly amazed at the growth over the years. The blogosphere has been doubling in size every 6 months or so. It is over 100 times bigger than it was just 3 years ago.
Two-thirds of blogs are written in languages other than English, so the conversation is truly global.
For more on this topic, read our previous posts, David Sifry on NPR and Blog Growth Slows Down: It's Only Doubling Every 7 Months Now .
So if the numbers are true, accordingly there will be at least 100 million blogs by the end of the year. (Just so you know, Technorati doesn't track spam blogs, or splogs.)
But then again, what really counts is yours... will you have your blog up and running, getting tracked, getting indexed and speaking out loud on the Internet? Will you join the conversation?
