There's a press release out on PR.com from a "clothing optional" hotel and Spa in Palm Springs citing the Top 5 Myths of Business Blogs. What is clever about this is the use of a press release for a small hotel. For sure, it will get picked up by bloggers and marketing people interested in knowing what these top 5 myths are. Who knows, maybe some of them will make a reservation and go stay for a sunny bare-all weekend?
Here are some excerpts from the press release:
Myth #1) "Blogs are only for individual."
Technorati.com curently tracks about 50 million blogs, 10% of which are commercial or business blogs. However, with over 5 million businesses already blogging, it is too big to be ignored.
Myth#2) "Commercial blogging is only for big businesses."
First movers always have advantages. A smart small business could join the blogosphere today, while it still may take a year for their larger competitor to analyze the blogging scene.
Myth #3) "I can’t blog, I'm not a good writer."
One of the major advantages small businesses have is customers perceive them as having personalities, hearts, and souls. All one needs to do is write a few paragraphs every week.
(Note: The Blog Squad respectfully disagrees. You need to write 2-3 times a week to sustain interests.)
Myth #4)"Business blogs are boring."
The Blog for The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing Optional Resort and Spa is http://terracottainn.blogspot.com
Myth #5) "I’m to busy to blog."
If a business needs a presence on the internet, then it needs a company blog. Tell your customers about your blog. They will be glad that you did and so will your bottom line!
The Blog Squad doesn't agree with the Terra Cotta Inn's recommendation to get a free blog over at Blogger.com or Wordpress.com, but we do hear these 5 myths everyday.
And we highly endorse their conclusion that small businesses are perfect for blogging as a way to let customers know your personality and sample your knowledge.
Heck, you can even blog nude if this summer weather is too hot! But I don't think The Blog Squad will bare it all on any of our blogs soon...

Nude resort blogging is amusing, and this entry shows that there's a way to get seen by being a little offbeat in your approach.
Although I'm with you that the advice to put a blog on a free platform isn't a good one, the idea of just getting out there and doing it is a good one. There's room for all in the blog universe.
