Des Walsh of Thinking Home Business Blog in Australia wrote a great post about how to get a handle on RSS feeds, and how to get others to understand and start using it. While he encourages people to read Brian Clark's post over on Copyblogger about this topic, Des adds clarity to the confusion.
You can expect to hear more about RSS this year, as new companies offer services to make RSS easier for you and your readers to start using it. One such company is Attensa. More coming later about them and their RSS feed services.
Yesterday, Denise and I were guests at a Six Apart luncheon in Santa Monica. I'm sure Denise will be posting about this later today. Six Apart is parent to Typepad, Live Journal and Movable Type. Also sponsoring the event was Attensa. Director of Product Management Matthew Bookspan was there, and provided more clarity about RSS.
Des, Brian and many of the blogging experts are right. RSS is hampered by its name, and the fact that the technology is a bit of a mystery. To me, it's one of those things that make your online information gathering much easier. Benefit? You lose less time surfing the 'Net to find information.
No more screen sucking! You get the relevant information automatically delivered to you. Now that's a big time-saver. Right now I'm using RSS technology to get my favorite blog updates to My Yahoo page. But I'm going to try out Attensa, in the next week.
Here's how Attensa explains it: RSS is a communication technology that allows people to automatically receive information as soon as it is published. Users subscribe to the information they need. Users are automatically notified the instant new content is published. Attensa RSS readers are designed for business...helping track and monitor constantly changing business information without having to search or request it.
They are making it easy for you to get updates online, in Outlook, even on mobile devices. Why not go try a trial of Attensa, and get back to me about this tool. I'm going to try it but won't get to it until next week. Tell us what you think.
