As Patsi mentioned in her post RSS: Benefits for Business, The Blog Squad had the opportunity to attend a luncheon and info session about business blogging, hosted by TypePad's mother company, Six Apart. The host of the event was Anil Dash, Six Apart's Chief Evangelist.
The purpose of the luncheon/seminar, was to bring awareness to SixApart's blogging solutions for business. These solutions, using TypePad and Movable Type, are primarily designed for small to medium sized businesses vs. the independant service professional who can get great benefit from Typepad's original service.
But I digress. Anil is a passionate blogger and his title is right on -- he's an evangelist. Here's how he defines blogging:
A safe way to easily connect with the audience you care about.
Isn't that beautiful. So simple, and so true. He also shared a quote from Bob Lutz of General Motors:
To blog or not to blog? The answer simply enough is to blog. No better opportunity exists to engage in an open dialogue and exchange of ideas with customers and potential customers.
That just about says it all. If you're considering implementing a business blog as one of your marketing and communication tools, think about these words from GM's VP and author of one of the best know corporate blogs, FastLane Blog.
Another point Anil made was about the blogging cycle. Technically speaking it goes like this: post your message > feeds deliver your content > comments and trackbacks from your readers create the conversation > repeat.
Now look at it from this perspective and your opportunity to be a thought leader in your field: Inform > Influence > Inspire
Bottom line? Blogging is not only cool technology that is as easy to use as writing an email, it's also practical and inexpensive. There are no rules. You can blog your own way with your own criteria and guidelines for your business. Blogging will get you visibility in your market and business and will attract clients to care about you.
