Business Blog Case Study: OrganizingLA

Last week we posted about one of our blogging clients who reaped the rewards of being featured in Daily Candy.  John Trosko of OrganizingLA is a professional organizer and productivity expert.  About 8 months ago, after much discussion, he set up his blog in lieu of setting up a website.  He writes regularly, provides great content and has a witty sense of humor.  All has contributed to an increased awareness of his services and lead to the feature in Daily Candy.  By the way, you cannot buy your way into Daily Candy.  Either someone submits info about your service or they find you.

I was curious about the impact this free exposure had on John's blog and his business.  His reply follows.

Two years ago someone once told me that my business would never be featured in Daily Candy.  It just wasn't "edgy" enough, or unique, or different than the rest.

• 135 new subscribers
• 12 phone call inquiries
• 24 e-mail inquires for my services
• 5,200 unique visits to the blog for the day - 3:30 am - midnight
• 16, 000 page views on the blog - 16,000 page views
• 12 old friends came out of the woodwork after seeing me in their in-box
• 2 high-level people now wanting to take me to lunch to find out how I publicize myself
  
  More than 1/2 of the calls, or e-mails I received honestly sounded like people who "knew" me.  I was talking with a potential client last night and it was like "Hey-- you are my perfect client!"  The combination of the compelling feature and the overall feeling of my blog contributed to that day's success-- over 4 dozen solid inquiries for my service.  The client on the phone even commented how comfortable she was talking about her organizational issues with me (and you know how shameful some clutter issues are-- not everyone likes to announce it from the top of the Hollywood Sign.)  The blog really enhances the client/consultant relationship.  For anyone looking at your potential service, they can spend hours looking at your company-- before they check you out-- I think it's called lurking.  So when a  potential client finally calls, the getting to know you process seems shorter-- and the work can begin-- faster.
  
  I received one print and one very nice TV media inquiry, too.  And in Los Angeles-- that a miracle!

I can guarantee you that without his blog, John Trosko would never have received the exposure he did with this one blast of free publicity.
