As I do occasionally, I was surfing through TypePad's Tips and Tricks info to make sure I haven't missed anything lately. Well, I had. I read a post about adding favicons to your blog.
A favicon is the tiny little icon you see in the address bar on some sites. It's a way you can make your website, or blog, stand out in a list of bookmarks or favorites. Funny thing is, I had read about creating favicons just yesterday in the post I quoted about customizing the colors on your blog. I guess reading about it 2 days in a row, means I have to try it out.
You can create a favicon for free at at site called FavIcon from Pics. Simply upload your logo or any image and then click a button and it's generated. You download a zip file to your computer; open the file and save the favicon.ico image. Then upload it to your main "home" folder in your Typepad account.
Problem for me is that I cannot get it to show up in IE. It shows on my blog in Netscape. I cannot figure out how to make the favicons show up in my Favorites or in the address bar. If anyone out there knows the trick to make this happen, please post a comment below. Thanks!

I didn't think IE supported Favicons. At least I was always under that assumption. One more reason to stick with Firefox and Safari!

Dear Denise,
I hope you have already figured out your problem, but if not check out PC Magazine.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,25552,00.asp
The article discusses FavOrg a small utility available to download for free. The article also details the issues in IE with favicons.
I hope this helps! My stepfather has used it for a few years and loves it. He used to have all kinds of problems with favicons and IE.
Thank you for your work, I am a new subscriber and I really appreciate all that The Blog Squad has to say.

Hi!
I solved my "no show" problem by clearing the bookmark for the site, dumping temporary Internet files, then go back to the site and the favicon will work for you again.
Just like when you had to "refresh" your Windows 98 install every 4 months (Ha ha) you may have to "refresh" your favicon too!
Hope this helps,
