Once you've got your blog going, the next focus, other than maintaining an active posting schedule, is to get people to read your blog. Where do they come from, these elusive readers? While there are many tried and true ways to drive traffic to your blog, one that can be very effective is to create joint ventures with other bloggers. By joint venture, I mean invite other bloggers who write on complementary topics to be guest authors on your blog.
This gives you access to a wider audience through your guest blogger and gives your guest author access to your audience, so it's a win-win.
We did this with our Blog Squad Live! blog when we invited 10 coach bloggers to contribute to a blog we ran during a conference. I've also implemented this strategy on my personal blog about weight loss and fitness at Slim-People.com. For the next week, I've invited one of our Blog Squad Makeover clients, Annie Dennison, to be the featured guest author and write about healthy dating tips.
This gives huge added value to my readers; exposes Annie's readers to my blog, and drives new traffic to Annie's blog. What could be better?!
