In response to my question to Typepad about hackers using blogs to spread malicious viruses, here is what I received:
Hi Denise,
People can embed things on pages that *they* own, so you'd
exercise usual caution when surfing and run clean-up
programs on your machine, like Ad-Aware to monitor your
system that way.
Any comments on your site are automatically sanitized to
protect against malicious code. So you don't have anything
to worry about that way with your site... that's all taken
care of by us.
TypePad itself is not specifically prone to owners using it
maliciously, and the credit card step also keeps out most
riff-raff. Please let us know if we can assist you
further.
I hope this helps.
Brenna
I tend to be trusting until I have reason to feel otherwise so for the time being this satisfies me. I think really the key is to be careful about the blogs you visit and the links you click on. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam.
